I also want to say: "ORD loh!" to my last batch of trainees (13th Field Defence Course - Paya Lebar Air Base) before i completed my NS on 30 May 2006. ORD loh ORD loh!!! Just want to tell all of you who are either going on to work or further studies, all the best in whatever you are going to do... It's been a great time knowing all of you. Thanks for trusting me, even sharing with me your inner thoughts and personal problems during the course duration.

I might not be the best instructor or platoon sergeant you have met during your NS, but i hope that the things/values i had passed on has influenced you in a good way.

I look forward to see you along Orchard Road or in the campus!
Come and pat me 'lightly' on my shoulder if you see me!
I might forget your name already or need time to recall, sorry about that in advance.
For those whom i remember your name, you are either the zai!! ones in the platoon or you have been taking alot of OFF pass from me yah?
You can consider to change my contact name in your handphone phone list from Platoon Sergeant Tan -> to -> Guan Rui ... But if you continue to call me on the road :"Platoon Sergeant Tan!", I think most probably i will turn around and say :"ORD loh!!!"

Special thanks to my section commanders!

Today i went for my Individual Physical Proficiency Test (IPPT) at Maju Camp.
It was raining super heavily in the morning. I had to wake up at 6am in order to reach there by 0715hrs. When i was brushing my teeth, i was wondering whether the IPPT would be cancelled. But as my window period for IPPT this year is closing as my birthday is drawing nearer, i can't afford to wait any longer. So i decided to just make my way to Maju Camp and see whether the rain would stop in time.

I was so so impressed by the electronic version of the IPPT. I would say that it is a good system, fast and accurate. Ever since i ORDed, this is my first time taking IPPT as a NSmen. The individual number tag contains the individual's details and is used to register the score at every station.

After completing the 4 static stations in the multi-purpose sports hall, we waited in the cookhouse to wait for further instructions on whether the 2.4km run is still going to be on. If not, all the results today would be considered void without the run... No!!! I don't want!!! The Physical training instructor (PTI) told everyone of us to pray for the weather to be clear so that the run can still carry on.... so we hang on and waited for about 45 mins... When the rain finally tone down to slight drizzle, we assembled on the parade square for briefing on the running route. Each round is 0.8km, and we have to run 3 runs to complete the 2.4km run. The timing will only start after the number tag we are wearing passes through the gantry, so its quite fair actually....i was in the first detail (wave) so it really feels like I am the fastest cos the route in front of me is clear... so the morale was UP!

However, during the run, somehow my nose started to run also... cool right? i have to control my breathing in a weird manner, a bit jia lat. But what kept me running was the monetary award of $200, if my overall result is silver.... Hee! good money u know! haha!
The weather was nice, cool but my shoes were wet after stepping into quite a number of rain patches... splash splash!!

The results are:

Sit-up : 41
Broad Jump : 234cm
Chin Up : 10
Shuttle Run : 9.3 sec
2.4km Run : 11:21min

Result: PASS
Award: SILVER
