Yes! 10km Annual Sheares Bridge Run...really glad that i manage to survive the run. I did not walk leh....haha lots of people... i enjoyed the run very much, so happy - endorphins released into the blood stream and bind to the receptors.

Let you know more about endorphin in our lives...

Sugar rush
"Time and again you've experienced the intense effects that food can have on your moods. Cakes, cookies, and fudge are known as pleasure foods not only because they delight your taste buds but because they can make you feel calm and happy - at least temporarily. This sugar induced sense of euphoria comes from several chemical mechanisms in your brain. First of all, the sheer pleasure of tasting a chocolate treat or powdery donut stimulates your brain's pleasure pathways and the release of dopamine and endorphins, the chemicals that makes you feel exhilarated. You also get a quick surge of energy as the sugar hits your bloodstream. Unfortunately, that energized feeling lasts only as long as the sugar rush. Once your blood-sugar levels drop (about an hour or two later), you're left feeling drained and out of sorts. You become an addict looking for another hit."

Erm..
my feeling after going thru the 1st week?
Excited but at the same time worried.
There are lots of things to catch up. Regret and thought i could have read up a bit more so i would not be so sotong during lectures. I really want to catch up immediately when doubts arises cos i think if not, this blur sotong ME will drift further and further away.

Now let me analyse my modules.

CM1121 - Basic Organic Chemistry
Sounds basic to u? Come and attend the lecture lah! The scottish lecturer wants us to copy from his slides presentation. This module in IVLE is quite empty. No notes attached. Looks like we have to copy like mad during the lecture, at the same time catch what he is murmuring in his scottish accent. Aiyoh yoh!

ST1232 - Statistics for Life Sciences
So far so good. I love the lecturer! Although he got a HongKong accent, i am really drawn to listen during the lecture as he tries to explain the concepts in simple form for understanding. He even got a powerpoint presentation on:
Introduction to Myself.
I was so stun when i saw it! This lecturer is so professional! Ha Ha...It is interesting finding out that some statistics shown in newspaper are biased and does not take into account some important factors which are crucial in getting a good conclusion.

PH2110 - Logic
Screwed. It's so chim! Finding logic in sentences, whether they make sense. Breaking apart sentences to look for flaws. I am not going to S/U this module, cos i am sure God will help me work it out in the days to come. I pray that one day i will understand what logic is about, preferably before the exams...haha..always look on the bright side of life...

SP1201 - Freshmen Seminar
Fun. I like it very much. The first lesson was 4-6pm. But we overshot by half hr. Too engrossed with the problems to solve.
1) There is a new idea proposed by a scientist. He says that there is a new way of travelling, cheaper, low fuel consumption. Hop on a helicopter from Thailand, it raises and suspends in the sky, after 5 hrs, it reaches top of India, and here u are in India. Would u buy this idea? How can u convince the public whether this idea is feasible?
2) There are 3 missionaries and 3 cannibals at Changi Point Jetty. There is a small canoe on the shore. Capacity is 2pax. All 3 missionaries know how to row a canoe, but only 1 of the 3 cannibals know how to row. Important note is that whenever there are more cannibals than missionaries on either shore, there will be a feast. How would u arrange them, all the 6 of them to reach P. Ubin safely?
Ok... those questions allow us to gain confidence to speak up in the class and also think out of the box. Cool! I think i will learn alot in this module.

LSM1103 - Biodiversity
Just had my 1st practical last Friday. I enjoyed the lab session, not only because its air-con, but also to get to see bacteria running around on the microscopic slides. They are so gan jiong. Welcome to microbiology. I feel that as so cool to understand about bacteria, how some of them prevent themselves to be destroyed by the antibodies that we eat. Hey! These guys are really clever. Although we can't see them with our naked eye, we can stain them and examine and differentiate them under microscope. During the lab, the Prof popped in and posed some questions. And before he left, he asked for names so he can try to know us more. Being a innocent boy in lab coat, i told him my name when his eyes rested on me after a few sweeps. I was thinking how could he remember our names. But my friends reminded me of his ability to remember the bacteria species names. eg. Steptococci pyogenes, Staphylococci aureus, Diplococcus pneumoniae, Escherichia coli (E.coli), Salmonella typhi, Bacillus anthracis (Anthrax), Treponema pallidum (Syphilis). Oh man! How could someone remember so many names? Ooopss looks like i have underestimated Prof's ability. Sorry Prof! Please dun call my name in the middle of the lecture. I promise i will be attentive during the lecture. Please! I will pee in my pants de!
I also enjoyed wearing the lab coat. Wha... like very pro like tt! going around the benches to look at different microscopes... like forensic scientist. Yah i heard from John that there is a new HongKong serial show, Fa Zhen Xian Feng. About using forensic science to crack the cases. I would really want to watch it.

To my Brothers and Sisters who are in Uni with me now, remember that we are children of God.

We are not Students who happen to be christians,

We are Christians who happen to be students.

However, we always want to excel in our studies so that we can be a living testimony and bring glory to our God.

But we need to take Jesus with us wherever and in whatever things we do, not to rely on our own strength, because He really want to go thru circumstances with us. Amen?

I really enjoyed the Science Orientation Week. CareBears rox! I would really want to thank the seniors who are involved in the making of SOW'06. Success! I am glad that i have a chance to know so many friends who will be the people that i will go lectures and tutorials with. Hey must help one another leh..

One of the SOW events was NUS Flag Day on 08 August 06.
Our OGL, Carebear PaPa, draw lots and our OG was assigned Bedok.
We struggled from the West to reach Bedok at 0730.
We started selling flags. In the beginning, the tins were empty and when the first coin dropped into the tin, it gives off a loud 'Klong'. So happy, as the tin starts to fill up and gets heavier. Until my hands feels tired.
During the Flag Day, I met a cute little boy who say to me: "Thank You, Papa" when i pass him a sticker. Shocked haha!

NUS Rag Day

Everyone was sacrificing their sleep time to help out in the rag. Although we did not get the shield this time round, i am sure that the preparation work itself has brought many to be bonded with the Faculty of Science.

Haha....i think life in the uni requires the undergraduates to be independent. A lot of the decisions have to be made by ourselves. Which modules to take, bidding, checking the net whether there is any assignments to be done, print out the notes...

Yeah... new laptop... nowadays keep going online most of the time, lots of things are uploaded to the webby... I pray that although the first few lectures we are like blur sotong, we will be enlightened by the senior's notes and smart friends around... Have Faith!
