Planning to go taiwan on your own? fun! no need to scare. Although i initially quite sian to plan the trip, i discovered the beauty of finding ur own way around in a foreign country. Unlike travelling with tour agent, they plan for u where to go, how much time u can have at tt particular place (whether u like it anot). However, travel by free and easy, u can learn to look at a map and ask your the locals what bus to take. u buy ur own tickets and eat what u want.
10 days for taipei, tainan and taichung, (includes hotels, flight, food, entrance fee, transport and gifts) is around $1600.

On the way to Royal Castle Hotel, Ximenting. It is a nice hotel. Though not big hotel, the staffs are very polite, eg: when you come back at night, they will say: 辛苦了,早一点休息哦! Makes you feel at home. Inside room got hot n cold water cooler! 5 mins walk to Ximen MRT Station. I highly recommend you this hotel when you stay in taipei.

It is said that long time ago there were only nine families in Jiufen. Before the roads on land were built, all materials were transported via ships. Thus a habit was formed that nine pieces of same object were purchased at one time for reservation. Hence, the place was called Jiufen .

Alishan

Take train from taipei to chiayi in the morning 0730 reach 1040. $600NT.

Construction of the Alishan Forest Railway was commenced in 1899 by the Japanese. Intended to transport logs down the mountain, it has a 762mm gauge, a gradient of 6.25%, and a minimum turning radius of 40 meters. Traffic was opened on the 66.6-kilometer stretch between Chiai and Erwanping in 1912, and was extended up Alishan to a full length of 71.4 kilometers in 1914. The railway climbs from 30 meters above sea level to 2,216 meters, has 49 tunnels and 77 bridges, and passes through a cross-section of climates and terrain types. From Chia-I, the railway travels along relatively flat terrain for 14.2 kilometers before beginning the long climb, corkscrewing around Mt. Duli, climbing 200 meters over a distance of five kilometers. The railway then travels on to Pingjena Station. From here it zigzags up the mountain, reversing direction at each new section of line as it gradually ascends Alishan.Intended to transport logs and carry supplies, the railway has now become an integral part of the Alishan recreation facilities. After the Alishan Express was established in 1984 (requiring 3 hours and 15 minutes for the complete journey), some of the carriages of the original trains were converted into hotel accommodation. A number of locomotives are also on display at the Old Railway Display Area located near Jauping Railway Station.

when i alight the train at chiayi, i forgot to take my lugguage which is left on the metal rack above my seat. I only realise it 15 mins after that...the train had already left...though i was really panicked, i made a short prayer before thinking what to do next. i ran tothe duty desk and told them what happened. The officer on duty was really helpful. He immediately called the next station to sent somebody to check the train. I waited for 20 mins before i know that my lugguage will be sent to the station when the next train heads to chiayi.

Lucky ah... thank God for such a service.

From Chiayi we have to transit to another Alishan small train to go up the hill.

The small train ride was slow but fun...rock n rock rock...

3.5hrs ride..rock n rock...

Stayed at a hotel next to the lake. Nice view. In the morning i woke up early so that i can have quiet time praying and reading the Bible on the rooftop.

After that took a boat to go around the lake.

Fisherman's Wharf

Fisherman's Wharf is a multi-purpose leisure fishing port developed by the Taipei County Government. There are magnificent floating piers and a spacious park, with a bridge in the shape of a boat spanning across the harbor and a wooden path stretching over 300 meters at the waterfront. It is relaxing to lean against the fence enjoying the breeze and sights at the Danshuei River mouth. In the evening, this is the best place to watch the view of the sunset.
